Bananas for Grownups

For an easy-to-fix treat, try this.

Taking some time on the beach next week to dream and refresh. Will touch base on my return.

Gifts from the Sea

If you haven’t tried ceviche here is a simple and delightful start. Enjoy.

Bahia Delight

I had the opportunity to taste this style of cooking, centered around the heavy use of palm oil, in Bahia.

Works with any kind of seafood.  Enjoy.

Argentinian Salsa

Here is a salsa with a twist just in time for the summer Q’s.  It works on anything.  Enjoy!

Brazilian Brunch

Put away the two over easy for this wonderful change of pace.  The cassava flour as a delightful crunch.  Enjoy.

Worth the Wait

This dish is easy to prepare but takes a little patience. My favorite is the large lima beans. Enjoy.

Juneteenth Celebration

One of the many foods brought to the Americas by the Africans is Okra.  Not familiar to some, but certainly to my West-Indian brothers and sisters. Too many recipes to mention here, but this salad will remind us of these contributions to our table.  Happy Juneteenth.

A Culinary Journey through the Diaspora

We are all connected by rice and beans – a sentiment I express often. What a treat then to have an opportunity to sample these connections all in one place.

If you are in San Francisco, don’t miss the Culinary Journey event at the Museum of the African Diaspora. On the chance you can’t make it, enjoy the Jamaican fish curry.

Spirited Tables

The Venda women of Southern Africa who are related to the culture that built the Great Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe are famous for their take on the hats and cloaks they wear and the ancient beads worn around their necks that represent their ancestors. We used this as inspiration to design a table setting that helped us visually tell this story.

ethniciti Tablescapes

As part of an exhibition on African-inspired design at the King Arts Complex in Columbus, Ohio, we crated a series of tabletop vignettes.  The fusion of crystal, French amber, and silver settings gave us a chance to create a truly high-style African-inspired dining experience.
